Yahoo Pushes Futher Into MP3; Launches Full Album With Disney Label

By Rafat Ali - Mon 18 Sep 2006 11:11 PM PST

Yahoo, which had a popular experiment in July with a Jessica Simpson single in unrestricted MP3 format, has taken a step further: it will sell Jesse McCartney’s new album “Right Where You Want Me,” from Disney-owned Hollywood Records, in the MP3 format (meaning no DRM and hence portable to any device, including iPods). The label said this is an experiment, and it might release other albums based on this going well.
And in a hint at how difficult it is still to get any thing meaningful done in the music industry, Yahoo only has rights from Hollywood to sell the album in its entirety, for $9.99, not by individual track.
