Yahoo, Newspaper Groups Considering Expanding Deal To Display Ad Sales

By Rafat Ali - Wed 10 Jan 2007 11:29 AM PST

Buried in the WSJ story about GMT newspaper groups considering a joint online ad network is the information that the Yahoo-newspapers joint group is also exploring expanding their current classified-based cooperation and sales deal to to include a national ad-sales network similar to the one GMT group is thinking about. The “Seven Amigos”, as the group is informally called, has already signed a letter of intent on this.
The expanded Yahoo deal is likely to require the newspapers in the consortium to use Yahoo search on their newspaper sites. In addition, Yahoo and the newspapers could sell ads on each others’ sites, with revenue being shared among the partners.
