What Should Daum Do With Lycos

By Rafat Ali - Fri 30 Jul 2004 10:07 AM PST

If Daum closes the deal with Lycos US, what will it do with the likes of Wired News, Quote.com, Tripod and others?

If they would to ask me, I would say: dump Wired News, Quote.com and others unrelated sites, and retool the networking services to the mobile. The battle for a “mobile portal” is far from being won (or even started, for that matter) in U.S., and Lycos, with its experience in Europe, is poised for a better shot at that. Among the big three--Yahoo, AOL and MSN--none have gained any real traction within the mobile services sector, except maybe MSN in Europe and Yahoo in a few markets in Asia.

The telcos will not make it easy, but the market is still wide open, and Duam’s experience in the booming wireless market in South Korea will come handy with such a retooling of Lycos…
