-- Web users won’t pay for podcasts: Two-thirds of UK web users say they won’t pay for podcasts but would put up with ads if the service was free. Forty-six percent said they would put up with relevant audio ads, and those that will pay said their limit would be £1. Full results of the Digi:nation/Harris Interactive survey are due on Monday.
-- Scotsman.com wins best regional newspaper site: Scotsman.com has deservedly won best daily newspaper site at the Newspaper Society awards for the third time in five years. The awards pick out the best in regional publishing though the main focus is on print products. It’s good news for the new owners Johnston Press, whose increasing digital ad revenues were the only cheery part of its latest results.
-- Haymarket doing stuff online: Haymarket’s gadget magazine is launching a web version in November with video, audio, bells and whistles. The existing podcast is consistently in the iTunes top 20 and has around 23,000 listeners each week.
-- NatMags goes online, at last: Hearst’s National Magazine Company has established the Hearst Digital Network to oversee its web properties including cosmopolitan.co.uk, netdoctor.co.uk and Handbag.com. Nancy Cruickshank, former Handbag MD, will become MD of the new division.
-- Endemol dabbles in paid citizen journalism: Endemol is working with Fotothing on a photo blogging site for an ITV1 citizen journalism news review show. Photos tagged ‘ITV’ will automatically upload to a dedicated page and Endemol will pay contributors for photos and footage that ends up on the show.
