Terra Lycos, the global Internet unit of Terra Networks SA of Madrid, was in the black on an EBITDA basis for the first time in its history last quarter, earning 8 million euros, or $10 million.

It said it achieved the results by increasing the number of paid subscribers for its access, communication and portal services. The number of subscribers was up 61 percent over 2002.

For its fiscal year 2003, Terra Networks lost $217.7 million on revenue of $688.6 million. For fiscal 2002, the company lost $2.5 billion on revenue of $781.1 million.
