Synergies Between Dow Jones and MarketWatch

By Rafat Ali - Wed 27 Oct 2004 08:11 PM PST

Just some stream of consciousness thoughts on the potential bid for MarketWatch (read below): As the NYT story says, DJ has some good synergies with MKTW...it is looking at the broader consumer biz/finance news and info market and would help bring in a great ad and syndication revenue streams.

AS NYT story says (and I’ve reported extensively before): “[WSJ.com] requires a paid subscription and subscriber growth appears to have leveled off at about 700,000 users. Dow Jones would also hope to convert some MarketWatch subscribers to paid subscribers of The Journal’s site, the executives said.”

DJ has been on an acquisition spree over the last year or so, buying out VentureWire, Alternative Investor Group and another German company…
