Salon.com Earnings: Paid subscriptions for Salon.com (Nasdaq: SALNC) now contribute about 41 percent of its revenues, according to its Q4 earnings released today. That’s up from 31 percent in the previous quarter.

Breakdown of results: 39,500 paid subscribers now, adding 7,400 new paid subscribers for the quarter. Translates to about 60 new subscribers every day.

Revenues: $0.95 m, down 16 percent since previous quarter. Net loss: $1.35m, shrinking 3 percent since last quarter. Q4-02 vs. Q4-01 comparisons, in my opinion, are not the most valid comparisons for Salon, since it has been living hand-to-mouth practically every quarter. Available cash at March 31, 2002: $1.5 million compared to $2.1 million at December 31, 2001.
