Pittman’s Pilot Group, Hirschhorn Invest In Music Blog Stereogum.com

By Staci D. Kramer - Thu 26 Oct 2006 06:53 AM PST

We’ve learned that Bob Pittman’s Pilot Group and former MTVN digital head Jason Hirschhorn have invested in Stereogum.com, the popular music-scene blog founded by Scott Lapatine.  Idolator today reported hearing that the Pilot Group, the majority owner of DailyCandy, was buying the blog but we can tell you it’s a different kind of deal. A source familiar with the details said Lapatine, who founded the blog three years ago while still at VH1—and where he worked for Hirschhorn as a web producer—retains full creative control. Entertainment Weekly recently ranked Stereogum #7 in a list of 25 best music sites music sites—the number-one blog on the list. No financial terms.
It’s not the first music-related investment for Pittman, who took part in the funding earlier this year of indie music site GarageBand.com. Hirschhorn has formed his own digital media consulting business since leaving MTVN and is making some personal investments.
