Online Avatar Social Network Gaia Gets $8.93 Million Funding

Gaia Interactive, a San Jose, CA-based virtual space “hangout” geared towards young people, has raised around $8.93 million in new VC funding, according to a regulatory filing, picked up by PE Week Wire. Backers include Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures.

    Gaia Interactive is collecting serous money from its users, every month they bribe user into “Donating” for special items online.

    gaia is fun, i have an account. its addictive dressing up your avatar and playing all the games the website has. but i would never actually give money to a website for a 2D item.
