iVillage On Why It Missed Q1

By Staci D. Kramer - Thu 12 May 2005 06:06 PM PST

iVillage, which missed the earnings number this quarter, has an interesting (and probably dumb) reason for doing so: “One of the biggest challenges we faced during the quarter was the need to regain the natural search engine rankings that iVillage would lose temporarily as a result of the hundreds of URL name changes (technical difficulty) in our redesign. To help offset these temporary search engine ranking losses, we made a deliberate decision to bump up our marketing and increase our barter relationships to provide some traction for the site re-launch.”
