High-School Sports Social Net Takkle, SI Team Up

By Staci D. Kramer - Mon 11 Dec 2006 03:57 PM PST

This has been in the works for months ... high-school sports social net Takkle is going national and launching a strategic alliance with Sports Illustrated at the same time.
The SI deal is tied to Faces in the Crowd, the weekly feature that spotlights high-school athletes. People will be able to log on to Takkle to nominate athletes and the site will feature an exclusive Sports Illustrated-Video Faces in the Crowd . There’s a user-gen twist natch; users can upload and view video highlights of high-school athletes. SI editors will pick one candidate from the site weekly. The announcement coincides with a special issue of SI going out this week: Fifty Years of Faces in the Crowd
In addition to uploading video and photos, Takkle provides a platform for high-school athletes to create player and team profiles, track stats, etc.
Disclaimer: Greycroft, an investor in Takkle, is also an investor in our parent company ContentNext Media.
