Hachette To Launch Home Improvement Portal; CondeNet’s Flip Opens Today

By David Kaplan - Tue 06 Feb 2007 06:47 AM PST

Hachette Filipacchi Media plans to launch PointClickHome.com, a web portal targeting in-market home buyers and/or those about to take on a major home improvement project, Mediaweek reported. The site, expected to be introduced during 2Q07, will pull together tools, e-commerce and content from the websites of other Hachette properties including Elle Décor, Home and Metropolitan Home. The site will also use material from some of the company’s special interest titles. PointClickHome.com is meant to be a guide that will enable users to research a wide variety of products featured in Hachette’s shelter books and websites. While the site also will have original content, Hachette execs insist that PointClickHome will not replace any of the websites for its shelter titles.  Elledecor.com, Homemag.com and MetHome.com each will undergo a redesign this year. The company is also planning to build a new dedicated ad sales unit for its shelter print and web publications.
And from home improvement to social improvement: CondéNet pulls the curtain up today on Flip.com, its new site for tween and teen girls. ClickZ reported. Flip.com lets its members design and publish “flipbooks” containing text, images, audio and video. As we’ve already written about, one of the site’s conceits is that it lets members manipulate advertising instead of the other way around.
