Gannett Denies Report That UK Unit Is For Sale

Gannett is denying an unsourced British report that its UK Newsquest unit is being prepped for sale. The statement: “There is no truth to the report in London’s Sunday Express that Gannett (NYSE: GCI) is considering selling its UK subsidiary Newsquest. Newsquest is a valuable part of the Gannett company.” (Via MKTW.) Newsquest, acquired by Gannett in 1999, is the second largest regional publisher in the UK with nearly 300 titles including 17 dailies and more than 80 sites. Gannett allowed the report to hang out there unanswered for at least 24 hours.
