Chicago-based RSS metrics firm FeedBurner gets a valentine from the hometown Sun-Times, which, of course, also has to explain what RSS is given the small numbers of actual subscribers or active internet users who even know about RSS or web feeds. Beyond the future-gab—RSS feeds in refrigerators, etc.—this from Portage Venture Partners MD Matthew McCall, explaining why he sees a financial future in RSS: “Even Apple, on its Web site, refers all podcasters worldwide to use FeedBurner to interface into iTunes. Since all content on the Web can be tagged using RSS and processed, this is an enormous opportunity.” Hope so for his sake ... Portage, Mobius Venture Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures have bet more than $7 million on FeedBurner.
