Australia’s Fairfax Digital Buys Parenting Website Essential Baby For About $3.15 Million

Updated: The Thomson deals database says the deal value was worth about USD$3.15 million.
Fairfax Digital, the digital arm of Australian media giant Fairfax, has bought parenting website Essential Baby, writes The Age (itself a Fairfax publication). Financial details weren’t disclosed but Fairfax Digital expects “strong cross-promotional growth for Essential Baby through Fairfax Digital’s news and classified sites”. The site has 99,500 current members, and the press release notes that it has 69,500 unique viewers each month and over 6.6 million page impressions. The acquisition is aimed at attracting female readers.

    It was rumoured before Christmas that the price of the acquisition was $1.5million , but that’s definitely not substantiated. I’m surpised the acquisition hasn’t been announced to the Australian Stock Exchange though, as Fairfax is a listed co (FXJ).
