Daum’s Lycos Bid Gets Cold Shoulder From Analysts

By Rafat Ali - Fri 30 Jul 2004 09:08 AM PST

From Korean analysts, questioning the value of Lycos to Duam. “The U.S. search engine Internet sites are consolidating around Yahoo, Google and MSN. Even though Lycos is currently ranked sixth, it will be difficult to gain more market share,” said Jang Young-soo, an analyst at Dongbu Securities.

“There is not much Daum could gain from acquiring Lycos. The search engine capabilities of Lycos are questionable and its business model is not that attractive. It has also faced increasing competition from other portal sites, especially in the online dating service,” said Koo Chang-gun, an analyst at Dongwon.
