CNBC.com Relaunches With Premium Live Video

By Rafat Ali - Mon 04 Dec 2006 01:18 AM PST

CNBC.com has finally relaunched its site...calling it a debut would also not be far off the mark. It has formally ended its rather lackluster online presence with MSN. Mark Hoffman, CNBC’s president, said the network has hired an additional 55 people to work on the site, this AP story says.
MediaWeek: While the live video and VOD content is free and ad-supported, CNBC.com is also offering users a premium subscription service that provides office workers who can’t get near a TV live streaming of the cable network’s three distinct feeds (U.S., Europe and Asia) for $9.95 a month. Those subscribers, who will not see any advertising, can also access up to 15,000 archival news clips.
More details in the release here. First impressions? Overkill on the design part. Rest, we’ll have later.

Looked good and I was going to try out the 7 day free trial.

Started to sign up. Couldn’t get any further without entering credit card info, with no details of clarification offered that the credit card info was for a trial only and the card would not be charged if I decided I did not like it.

Also, I read when I clicked to play a video that their it’s currently “optimized” for Windows Media Player. Too bad, not sure who lead them down this path to help them exclude Mac users. They should take a look at WSJ.com video set up. Works well on all platforms.
