Buena Vista Launches Mobile Video Channel in Korea

Buena Vista Entertainment, part of the Disney Group, is set to become the first US studio to launch mobile video content in Korea, after t did a deal covering live-action series with Korean mobile satellite TV operator TU Media.

For TU, owned by SK Telecom, Korea’s second largest telco, this it its first wireless content deal with a US studio. TU Media will be able to stream over 250 hours of programming, including Buena Vista International Television (BVITV) must-haves Desperate Housewives and Alias, on its linear channel, Blue.

TU Media currently offers a basic service with 12 linear channels streaming via satellite onto mobiles. The service launched in May and has more than 200,000 subscribers, who require a DMB mobile device and pay a monthly $17 subscription for all channels.
