(reg. req.) VC firm Austin Ventures is bankrolling former Bankrate CEO (and a a Bloomberg veteran) with $50 million to build an information-services business based in New York City. Elisabeth DeMarse will be heading DeMarseCo, and will build the new company through acquisitions and in-house development, looking for opportunities in digital information and traditional media—including TV, radio and book and magazine publishing—as well as new media.
Austin has funded two other such rollup firms in other verticals...DeMarseCo will pursue small companies that don’t yet meet the hyper-growth requirements of some private-equity firms, Demarse said.
(Elisabeth is around at the BSEC conference I am at in Scottsdale and will get some more info on it from her tomorrow)
