AMG Buys Music Software Firm MoodLogic

By Rafat Ali - Mon 22 May 2006 06:06 PM PST

All Media Guide (AMG), among the few main entertainment content database/metadata providers, has bought out San Francisco, CA-based MoodLogic, a provider of software for music organization, playlisting, and recommendation. AMG is owned in part by the PE firm Yucaipa. The companies’ joint capabilities now include CD, DVD and music file recognition; rich metadata at the artist, album and song level; personalized recommendation services; mood and theme-based playlisting; album art clip streaming; and in-depth editorial content.
MoodLogic was formed in 1999, and had raised $5 million in first round funding in 2000.
Among the competitors, Muze has also bulked up recently, buying out Loudeye’s U.S. operations. It also teamed up with Gracenote earlier this year to work on solutions together.
