If you can print it they will buy or so goes the logic here ... A new deal between printer giant Hewlett-Packard and Amazon marks the latest attempt to make publishing on demand work in the digital world. This one involves high-speed Indigo printers with accompanying software that HP is pitching to Amazon, other retailers and publishers as a solution for inventory management and the demand for titles that have gone out of print. Vyomesh Joshi, head of HP’s printing business, told the FT: “With an internet as an enabler, we believe there is tremendous demand for customers to get to that long-tail content.” Amazon said it will “significantly” increase the number of titles that can be sold.
