Yang Stops By Congress To Smooth Path For Google Deal

By Joseph Weisenthal - Wed 18 Jun 2008 04:38 PM PST

While Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) waits to begin its ad deal with Google (NSDQ: GOOG), Jerry Yang went to DC to chat with some of the company’s fiercest critics. A company spokesman confirmed to MarketWatch that Yang met with Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, and always a loud critic of perceived internet monopolies. When the deal was announced, Kohl was quick to promise an investigation. Whether Kohl is in a position to block the deal or not isn’t really the issue… the last thing Yahoo or Google wants is a Senate hearing on this issue.

Also, via the report, Republican Rep. Joe Barton said he wrote a letter to Yang expressing competition and privacy concerns. Full statement.
