Yahoo China Launches Blogging, Social Net Functions

By David Kaplan - Tue 10 Apr 2007 07:57 AM PST

Yahoo China has just released a new service called Yahoo Space, which includes blogging, a photo gallery and online community functions, Reuters reports. Yahoo China is primarily seen as a search provider, unlike its more diverse image in the rest of the world. With the country’s online population growing rapidly, Yahoo China is now concentrating on adding subscribers, not just search users. As we reported last month, Yahoo is working on a Chinese language version of Flickr. On the spcial net front, Yahoo China is working with e-commerce firm Alibaba, which provides an online trading platform.  Yahoo entered into a strategic partnership with Alibaba in 2005 to run Yahoo China. As part of that deal, Yahoo bought a 40 percent stake in Alibaba for $1 billion.
