Xoopit Raises $5 Million To Make Email More Social

Xoopit, a social networking service based around email, has raised a $5 million first round from Accel Partners and Foundation Capital. The service works with webmail services like GMail, and syncs up with third party services, like Flickr. Rather than requiring a user to visit all of these sites, email is turned into a centralized hub to manage and organize items on these services. The SF-based company faces competition on multiple fronts, as Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) have both been making efforts to make their email services more social. Founded in 2006, the service is still in beta. Release.
