Women’s Video Site SheZoom Launches With $2 Million First Round

By David Kaplan - Fri 04 Apr 2008 07:15 PM PST

SheZoom, an online video site focusing on professional and user-gen content for women, has raised a $2 million first round, the company tells us. The backing was provided by several unidentified private investors. The company is based in New York and was founded last year by CEO Stacey Artandi, who has held executive positions at The Food Network, The Tribune Company, InfoSeek, There.com and others, including heading the digital properties for American Lawyer Media. The site launched last week.

The site’s programming is divided into channels for relationships, food, mind/body, money, tech, as well as beauty/fashion and entertainment. “Those confines make sharing videos or watching them, more palatable then a site that offers an uncategorized, free-for-all,” Artandi said, in a brief interview. The company has signed up several “experts” in those areas to produce video commentaries.

As for how SheZoom will use the funding, Artandi wants to build out the sales and marketing team. “We plan to sell our own inventory, so we have some key hires in that area, as well as on the editorial side.” The rest of the money will towards developing the site’s technology “Looking long term, we want to see where the traction is and may consider building out separate sites and other businesses that may or may not be ad driven. More short-term, we’re looking for deals to syndicate other sites’ content into SheZoom, as well as looking for distribution of our videos out to third parties.” More about SheZoom’s launch here.
