With A Week Until Launch, The Buzz About Conde Nast Portfolio’s Site

Conde Nast Portfolio magazine will be hitting stands next week and its companion website will be released in conjunction. Jeff Jarvis was given a sneak preview of the site and, after detailing a skein of disclosures, he pronounces it “a decent collection of reasonably web-smart decisions.” Here’s what Jarvis saw:
-- They have a stable of bloggers, three of whom write for the print edition. Topics include politics, technology, entertainment, travel, and fashion.
-- The site links out to news elsewhere at Portfolio’s competitors.
-- It’s using Nielsen Buzzmetrics to track blog talk about top executives - however, you can’t then link out to that talk, which Jarvis regards as somewhat dubious.
-- Plenty of resource links for CEOs: plastic surgeons, security firms, and white-collar prison-prep firms that executives recommend; plus, there are survival guides offering tips on dealing with problems like plugging boardroom leaks.
-- There may be too much photography. “In the post-post-post Life Magazine era, I’m not sure photography is so universal in its topical appeal. There’s only so much you can do with craggy-faced moguls.”
