Expected this spring after an earlier delay, PlayStation Home is still not move-in ready. The real-time 3D community for PS3 consoles will stay in closed beta, although that will be expanded, and is now planned for open beta in the fall. (One possible clue for the timing: the Tokyo Game Show is Oct. 9-12.) Sony (NYSE: SNE) Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai via Reuters:  “We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer. But we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today.” Home originally was promised for global release last fall.

Update: WSJ: “A spokeswoman said the company plans to launch Home almost simultaneously world-wide in the fall. The virtual worlds will look the same in all of the regions, but they won’t be connected to one another because of language and billing considerations.”
