Social News Site Socialmedian Gets Funding From Crovitz, Hundt and Others

By Rafat Ali - Thu 10 Jul 2008 11:40 AM PST

Socialmedian, the social news site started by former Jobster CEO Jason Goldberg, has been nurturing its seed round into a sapling for a while and now added more investors, or at least in the process of adding: TechConfidential reports that new backers include Gordon Crovitz, former publisher of The Wall Street Journal, former FCC chairman Reed Hundt and Julius Genachowski, the co-founder of LaunchBox Digital who previously worked as a member of Barry Diller’s office of the chairman at IAC/InterActiveCorp as well as at the FCC.

Previous investors in the company’s seed round, announced earlier this year, included Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, the digital media arm of WaPo, and Allen Morgan, managing director at Mayfield (and an investor in Jobster).

The service is still in stealth and competes against the likes of Digg and Newsvine, though touts its more personalized approach to news filtering.
