Social News Site Mixx Gets Funding From Intersouth Partners

By Joseph Weisenthal - Tue 09 Oct 2007 07:55 AM PST

Mixx, a social news startup from McLean, VA, has announced a first round of funding from Intersouth Partners along with plans to launch a public beta this month. Terms of the investment were undisclosed. The company, which GigaOM describes as Digg for non-geeks, is hitting on all the right buzzwords: viral, social networking, user-recommended, personalized… everything you’d expect from a social news startup. Like Newsvine, recently acquired by MSNBC.com, Mixx will have content directly on the site, having signed deals with Reuters (NSDQ: RTRSY).com, USA Today and The Weather Channel. The company also sports a number of established media veterans among its ranks: CEO and founder Chris McGill was formerly at USA Today and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) while board members include former AP chairman Burl Osborne and former Yahoo VP Dave Mandelbrot. Release.
