Some consolidation in the social app space this week… Social Gaming Network, a developer of Facebook gaming apps, bought Esgut, a smaller app developer, according to VentureBeat. In addition to app development, both companies also have their own ad networks, so the acquisition gives them added scale in an area where that’s particularly important. Among SGN’s competition is Zynga, along with the biggest ones, Slide and RockYou, again, both of whom run their own ad networks. Consolidation in this space doesn’t come as much of a surprise. In an interview, RockYou CEO Lance Tokuda predicted a consolidation, as the largest players sought to shore up their position.
