Series Gets a Reprieve From CBS After Online-Led Protest

By Staci D. Kramer - Wed 06 Jun 2007 04:15 PM PST

CBS has been preaching audience and tonight Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, backed it up by bringing back a canceled series with a vocal and demonstrative community. (Sending thousands of pounds of peanuts to the network is an attention-getter.) Shows and characters have been saved before by fan outpourings but this particular effort coincides with other CBS interests.  In a message sent to several blogs, Tassler outlined an interactive proposition: she’s bringing back “Jericho” for seven mid-season episodes and promised to back it up by, among other things, rebroadcasting the series on air, streaming episodes and clips across the upcoming CBS Audience Network, and continuing the series “in the digital world”—then warned that happens next is up to the fans.

Tassler: “For there to be more ‘Jericho,’ we will need more viewers. A loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show.  But that community needs to grow.  It needs to grow on the CBS Television Network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available. We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.”

In other words, put up or shut up. Either way, CBS execs get to say they listened and responded. If the show doesn’t work this time maybe they can charge it against the interactive marketing budget instead of programming.

MY NAME IS FELICIA AND I HAVE BEEN A BIG FAN OF JERICHO SINCE IT FIRST STARTED. I HONESTLY THINK THAT YOUR VERY UNFAIR ABOUT PUTING ON A PROGRAM FOR VIEWERS TO WATCH ANDTHEN SNATCH IT UP AND FORGET ABOUT THE PEPOLE THAT ARE ENJOYING THE SHOW. ME AND MY FAMILY HAS BEEN VERY INTO JERICHO AND WOULD LIKE IT TO BE PUT BACK ON THE AIR. TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I THINK THAT YOU AT CBS DIDNT EVEN TRY TO HAVE ANY CONFINDINCE IN THE FIRST PLACE OR PUT ANY EFFORT IN KEEPING IT ON ANY WAY .BECAUSE WHEN YOU AT CBS OR YOU WRITTERS THAT WRITE IT KILL OFF PEOPLE .THAT MEANS YOU HAVENT TRIED IN THE FIRST PLACE TO KEEP THERE CHARTATOR GOING YOU KILLED APRIL AND HER BABY THAT WAS DUMB AT LEAST APRIL COULD OF LIVED OR THE BABY. THEN JAKES DAD THAT WAS VERY STUPID. I THINK THAT IF YOU RUN A SHOW THAT KEEPS COMEING ON EVERYTIME YOU WOULD OUT LAST OTHER SHOWS AND OTHER STATIONS. BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE A LONG RUNING SHOW THAT DOSENT GO OFF. LET THE VIEWERS DO THE TALKING AND YOU DO THE WRITEING AND FIX JERICHO. WE DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPONED. OH AND I KNOW YOU DIDNT KILL OFF ROBERT HE BETTER BE STILL ALIVE IN THAT AMBULANCE WITH JAKE AND IF THAT ISNT HIS NAME THAT SHOWS YOU HOW LONG ITS BEEN OFF TO LONG.
