Red Room Gets $1.25 Million For Authors Social Net

By Joseph Weisenthal - Mon 10 Dec 2007 09:03 AM PST

The Red Room, an SF-based social network for authors, has raised $1.25 million from angel investors, reports Red Herring (via VentureBeat). Investors include Craig Newmark, author Robert Mailer Anderson and Nion McEvoy, CEO of Chronicle Books. The site offers tools, such as blogs and book tour calendars, for writers to promote themselves and connect with their fans. In this respect, it could serve authors the way MySpace pages serve bands. The site has already snagged a number of high profile authors, such as Alice Walker and Amy Tan, to establish pages. Founder and CEO Ivory Madison is an author as well as the founder of the Red Room Writers Society, a place for writers to meet and work on their projects.
