Physician Community Site Sermo Gets $3 Million In Funding

By Rafat Ali - Wed 27 Sep 2006 10:11 AM PST

Sermo, a Cambridge, MA-based online physician community, has received $3 million in first round funding from Longworth Venture Partners. Sermo, founded in 2005, financially rewards physicians who contribute observations and clinical insights to the greater physician community and provides government health organizations, fund managers and analysts with access to real-time customized data...a bit like Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) Answers for physicians.
The site/community has been in test since July, and it formerly launched yesterday. There is bound to be some controversy on this about who can join and who can’t, and then the validity of opinions, versus actual research. But at least somebody’s trying to push those boundaries.
More details here and here.
