World Golf Tour, the online golf gaming environment, has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Panorama Capital, in its second round. Previous investor Battery Ventures also participated. VentureBeat puts the round in the “double-digit millions of dollars”. The San Francisco-based company was founded in may last year, and will launch its open beta product this summer, though as is customary there days, it already has 500K players on the system.

WGT enables multiple players to explore famous courses simultaneously (using 3D environments) and allows virtual players to compete for prizes. According to VentureBeat, CEO YuChiang Cheng said the company will make money from sponsors, including PGA.com, TaylorMade and adidas Golf, by letting them showcase products within the experience.
