By David Kaplan - Mon 30 Apr 2007 05:02 AM PST

Reuters is acquiring text-analytics software maker Clearforest, which has been working with the news service to boost search rankings for its business stories. In addition to the purchase, the terms of which have not been disclosed, Reuters has created a new strategic group to focus on search initiatives and named Gerry Campbell, who previously helped lead search efforts for AOL, as global head of search and strategic development.  Campbell is charged with overseeing the integration of Waltham, Mass.-based ClearForest into the rest of the company. Reuters said it will retain the current management team and workforce, which are split between the U.S. and Israel. It will also continue working with existing Clearforest customers, including Dow Chemical and Elsevier Science. Release
