Nokia-Qualcomm Patent Brawl Suspended

By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 28 Feb 2007 04:49 PM PST

Just to keep up to date on the “Qualcomm vs Nokia” battle, CNet notes that the US investigation into Qualcomm’s claims that Nokia is infringing its patents—due to begin in March—has been delayed indefinitely. This is really a win for Nokia, I think...and the Finnish company seems to agree, saying “since Qualcomm filed its complaint, it has voluntarily withdrawn three of the six patents from the suit. The remaining three are all from the same patent family. Nokia believes the patent withdrawal reflects on the weakness of Qualcomm’s case”.

Nokia’s claim of a “win” is based on very little, if on anything at all.

Because the three remaining patents are in the same patent family the case is “weak”?  The opposite could just as well be true.

Nokia’s PR attempt to trivialize the litigation reflects badly on the integrity of their effort to resolve differences with Qualcomm before the damage becomes severe.
