NBCU’s Zucker On NewSite, iVillage, CNBC

By Staci D. Kramer - Mon 30 Jul 2007 09:12 PM PST

NewSite/NewCo is on schedule for a September launch—and on target as part of NBCU’s digital strategy, according to NBCU CEO Jeff Zucker. “That part of our digital strategy we feel very good about,” he told THR’s Andrew Wallenstein during a recent interview. Some other areas of interest:

iVillage: Zucker: “iVillage continues to grow; they have 11 of past 12 months of increasing traffic. I think in every respect we feel good about that.” Pressed about whether iVillage is living up to its hefty pricetag, Zucker replied: “There was no question you can’t get into the digital space at bargain rates, but we think that iVillage sits perfectly in our family of female programming, whether it’s Bravo or Today, and they’re making progress. In the second quarter, display advertising revenue was up more than 40 percent. There’s still a ways to go; we still think there’s upside at iVillage.”

CNBC-Fox Business: “If this were two years ago, I would be far more concerned. CNBC has transformed itself into a strong and thriving operation under Mark Hoffman’s leadership. ... We’re not going to make the same mistake CNN made when Fox News Channel came along a decade ago. ... With all due respect to the success that News Corp. has had in many different places, just because Rupert Murdoch wants to launch something, it doesn’t mean it’s an automatic success.”

Google and copyright: “Clearly, Google has the capability of filtering, they filter when they want to, and we’re having discussions with them now about making sure they do that in a serious and robust way, and we expect them to do that and we’re going to monitor that closely to make sure that happens.”
