LiveMocha Raises $6 Million First Round For Language Learning Social Net

By Joseph Weisenthal - Wed 09 Jan 2008 05:45 PM PST

Bellevue, WA-based LiveMocha, a social network for learning languages, has raised a $6 million first round led by Maveron Equity Partners, according to PE Hub. The site offers lessons that users can sign up for, as well as the ability to converse with other users for practice. Members can also offer tutoring services using the site. The site, which launched in September, is hoping to offer an alternative to traditional at-home language learning packages that come on CDs or CD-ROMs. CEO and Co-Founder Shirish Nadkarni was previously at TeamOn Systems (acquired by RIM) and MSN.
