Our New Finance Section & The ContentNext Media Index

By Rafat Ali - Sat 29 Sep 2007 04:40 PM PST

Earlier this week we launched our new Financial section and, with it, the ContentNext Media Index, an index of 100 U.S.-traded companies in the media, Internet content and related sectors. The finance section tab is in the left side on top of all pages. More in extended entry…

Company profile pages: The tickers in our stories link to the public company page—for instance, this for Google. You’ll find a number of features on each company page: news, press releases, related blog posts, links to earnings webcasts, SEC filings, stock charts and other items generally found on such finance sites. You also can register and create your own stock portfolio, though we harbor no illusions that you will leave existing portfolios behind.

imageContentNext Media Index: The ContentNext Media Index is an index of 100 media/internet/entertainment/information companies which we already track on a regular basis. We picked them based on their direct role in the digital media industry (internet or mobile pure plays), or digital media/applications/hardware as part of the bigger companies. At this point, it’s limited to U.S.-traded (NYSE and NSDQ) companies, though that may change in the future or we may add a global index. It’s a weighted average with a value that started at 1,000 when it launched on Sept. 10; since then, the Index is up 5.2 percent.

The finance section and Index are powered by FinancialContent. They did an excellent job customizing it for us, and have been very fast and responsive. Our thanks to the team there. We look forward to working with them on continuous improvements.

I just noticed that your channels sidebar links don’t work in the finance section. Nice job otherwise!

Excellent addition, really useful and much appreciated! It could be interesting, in the context of the site of course, to add an ability to search Finance Message Boards for rumors and comments using BoardCentral.com engine and indexes.
