Irdeto Acquires Cloakware for $72.5 Million; Expands Content Security

Irdeto, a Dutch firm specializing in digital content security, has acquired Cloakware, a privately-held content security firm for $72.5 million. Cloakware, which offers a range of security products, was previously an Irdeto partner, fighting fraud and piracy over digital video and IP networks. In the release, Irdeto CEO Graham Kill said the deal would help it expand its offerings across the content lifecycle. Cloakware customers include Texas Instruments, Pioneer Electronics, and Vodafone. As noted in its timeline, the company has raised $17.6 million in financing, from TD Ventures, Globespan Capital, Covington Capital, and Intel (NSDQ: INTC) Capital. Irdeto is a division of South African media giant Naspers. Release.
