Industry Moves Roundup: Facebook Hires VP; Scripps Promotes; NBCU Digital Appts; Babelgum’s New CEO

-- Facebook has hired Chamath Palihapitiya, a former executive at AOL, most recently, an investor for Mayfield, as VP of product marketing and operations, reports WSJ. “One of Mr. Palihapitiya’s key challenges will be to better define Facebook’s business model, by finding new ways to make money and explaining them to each of the company’s constituents—such as users, advertisers and Web companies developing services for it—without alienating anyone,” WSJ elaborates helpfully. Meanwhile, more speculation that Facebook might go public soon.
-- Scripps Networks shifted Beth Higbee to a new post as SVP and GM of emerging ventures. In the new job, she will concentrate on creating “disruptive new businesses developed organically to drive growth for Scripps,” the company said in a statement.
-- NBC Universal Digital Distribution has promoted Michael Aaronson to VP of digital platforms...also, Charlie Tiersch joined NBCU as director of digital-business development and Keith Eich came on as director of digital-platforms operations. And Stacy Melle will broaden her responsibilities as VP of marketing for digital distribution.
-- Babelgum, the online video service, has changed its CEO even before if has officially fully launched: former Vodafone Global Director of Networks and Service Platforms Valerio Zingarelli is the new CEO. Zingarelli takes over the operational responsibilities of co-founder Erik Lumer who will now turn his focus to strategic product development, the company said. Details in PDF release.
