Industry Moves: Dan Finnegan Leaving Yahoo-Hotjobs

By Rafat Ali - Fri 18 May 2007 01:29 PM PST

Dan Finnegan, the primary architect at Yahoo of the newspaper “consortium,” which now includes 264 newspapers from 12 newspaper companies, is leaving the company, according to an internal memo sent by Hilary Schneider at Yahoo, and reported on by Classified Intelligence newsletter (not online). He joined the company in April 2002 as EVP and GM of HotJobs after serving as president of Knight Ridder Digital. Schneider became Finnigan’s boss when she joined Yahoo last year.
Meanwhile, BW has a timely story speculating on why mid to senior level company executives are leaving in a rather rapid fashion. The departed now include more people who have been with the company for six or more years of its 13-year existence--not the very top execs, but the seasoned middle managers Yahoo needs to carry out its ambitious turnaround plans...Some recent departees worry that if the company can’t soon create more excitement around its products--and its stock--the steady trickle of attrition could become a flood and include senior executives, the story says.
