Health Lifestyle Social Net PeopleJam Gets Funding From Pittman, Tom Rogers

By Rafat Ali - Wed 15 Aug 2007 09:14 PM PST

Two previously mobile content execs Robert Tercek and Matt Edelman (both ex-HandsOn, then called Mforma) are launching PeopleJam, a website set on helping people improve their lives. The company, based in LA, has received funding from Bob Pittman’s fund and TiVo (NSDQ: TIVO) CEO Tom Rogers.

The idea of the site is for users to interact with experts on health and fitness, relationship, finance, career, spirituality and other topics. Site will offer original video programming for each expert, as well as more traditional social networking tools, the Variety story says. Edelman most recently worked with Tercek at HandsOn, where he was VP of publishing, while Tercek was the CMO.

The new site will face tough competition against plenty of consumer health sites on one hand, and on new-age sites/communities on the other hand. Just recently, Gaiam, the lifestyle health and personal development media company, made two acquisitions (Zaadz, Lime Media), and bought a stake in another one (Conscious Enlightenment) and intends to launch a unified online/social network and destination site at Gaia.com in fall.

I think the trend to more micro-social networks is here to stay. As people begin to experience these sites, they will be able to find more relevant content and a higher probability that the social aspect is something they can use in their everyday life.
