Harvard-Oriented Mag 02138 Sold To Manhattan Media; Plans More Ivy-Focused Titles And Social Nets

By Joseph Weisenthal - Mon 12 May 2008 06:48 AM PST

02138, the Harvard-oriented lifestyle magazine launched by Atlantic Media, has been sold to NY-based luxury publisher Manhattan Media for an undisclosed sum. That 02138 was on the block was known, but the ultimate acquirer is a surprise: back in April, it was reported that Boca Raton-based publisher Sandow Media was on the verge of buying it. The magazine, which claims circulation of 100,000, got a lot of attention for its coverage of the Facebook-ConnectU lawsuit—in fact the site devotes a section to the Facebook Files, which includes some of Mark Zuckerberg’s college admission material.

MM is the owner of New York Press and other local weekly newspapers in Manhattan...it is owned by CEO Tom Allon and Isis Venture Partners.

With the acquisition, Manhattan Media plans to launch magazine titles for all of the ivy league schools, though it’s not clear if they’ll all be named after the zip code in which the schools reside. In addition, it plans to roll out—surprise—social networking sites targeting the alumni of each school. Hmm, an Ivy-borne social networking service… wouldn’t that be Facebook?
