By Joseph Weisenthal - Mon 01 Oct 2007 01:54 PM PST

The New York Times has a profile of FriendFeed, a new startup made up of high level ex-Google (NSDQ: GOOG)rs, which offers something akin to a Facebook news feed spanning a range of social networking sites.  So, instead of simply tracking your Facebook friends and their activities within the site, FriendFeed will you to monitor what your friends are doing on a range of sites, like NetFlix and Flickr.  The feed itself can be placed and viewed anywhere.

VentureBeat has some more on the company, noting that it was incubated at VC firm Benchmark Capital, which the founders joined as entrepreneurs in residence upon leaving Google. There are no details on any investment amount Benchmark has made in FriendFeed so far.
