Seattle-based Fisher Communications has acquired hyperlocal pioneer Pegasus News. No deal details but it looks like a form of acq-hire since Mike Orren, president of Pegasus News, and his team will stay on in Dallas. Dallas-based Pegasus News fits in with Fisher’s internet expansion plans for its own Pacific Northwest television and radio stations; it also can be deployed in other markets. In addition to the hyperlocal model, Pegasus news comes with something called “The Daily You”—a way of adapting to readers’ interests based on reading habits instead of check-off boxes.
Formed in 2004, Pegasus News took on music site TexasGigs.com to show what it could do, making it a full entertainment site that eventually became part of PegasusNews.com, a larger hyperlocal site covering the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The plan was to expand to other markets.
