’Tis the day to snap up basketball sites: Fantasy Sports Ventures, the fantasy sports-based media conglomerate, has acquired HoopsHype.com, a pro-basketball news and info site with a fantasy sports bent. FSV, which has a network of 100 owned-and-affiliated sites, says that HoopsHype will anchor its basketball content, which includes such sites as HoopsWorld.com, Collegehoops.net, and Release.
Staci adds: FSV’s “low-seven figures” acquisition of Hoopshype showed up first in a glowing write-up in Friday’s WSJ. HoopsHype, which now claims more than a half-million unique users a month, was founded in Spain six years ago by Jorge Sierra and is led by Sierra, Angel Marin and Raúl Barrigón. Between them, they have seen two NBA games yet have created a must-read pro basketball site. FSV started the hunt for Hoopshype when it came up most often as they asked NBA insiders which sites they most read.
