Everyone’s Green: WaPo’s Green Site; NatGeo; Hearst’s DailyGreen; Lime’s Green Blog Ad Network

This week is green, coming in the wake of Earth Day on Sunday:
-- Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive has tapped several former magazine executives, including some from Rodale’s defunct Organic Style, to launch Sprig, a new environment-friendly shopping site (Is it only me who can’t see the white-on-off-white logo?). The female-oriented site provides information on eco-friendly products for home, beauty, technology, fashion and family, reports Mediaweek. Sprig also features a mix of news coverage, original video, user-generated content and an extensive searchable product database. Sprig is being headed by former Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker, the current VP and editor in chief of New Ventures at WPNI.
-- The National Geographic Society also will roll out a new site on Monday, Green.NationalGeographic.com. That site will include more than 2,000 pages of environmental news, how-to videos and tips on eco-friendly travel and activities, reports NYT in a story on Sprig and others. The new site follows last month’s acquisition of TheGreenGuide.com.
-- Lime, a green health and lifestyle now-online-only publisher, has launched an ad network that aggregates inventory across environmentally-focused sites and blogs. Included is the green-tech focused EcoGeek.org and the beauty/cosmetics-oriented The Beauty Brains.
-- We mentioned this last week: Hearst launched a new site Sunday, called TheDailyGreen.com. The venture is Hearst Magazines Digital Media group’s first standalone web launch. The site is being designed as both a service outlet for those who are interested in living a more eco-friendly lifestyle, as well as a social net component.
