EMI Troubles Continue: Digital Head Wragg Leaves

By Rafat Ali - Tue 15 Jan 2008 05:33 PM PST

Updated below: EMI announced its restructuring and layoffs earlier today, but an un-noticed move on the digital side, till now: Barney Wragg, EMI’s head of digital since mid 2006, has left the company, reports Billboard. The story says that his exit wasn’t part of the layoffs, but was a result of impact of the reorg...EMI wanted him to take on a more hands-on role in the execution of the company’s digital initiatives, while Wragg wanted to focus more on strategy.

Wragg was formerly SVP at Universal eLabs, and joined in August 2006...since then a bunch of digital exits at EMI happened, including Ted Cohen, Adam Klein and Tom Ryan. EMI has been a pioneer in embracing MP3 file format and do away with DRM, starting in April last year, though of course being the smallest major, it had to experiment and take risks more than others.

No word on who will replace Wragg, if at all; EMI declined to comment.but we have a query out to EMI PR.

Updated: EMI has announced a replacement to Wragg: Mark Hodgkinson, currently EVP of global marketing, will be taking over the role, reports Guardian.
