By Rafat Ali - Tue 19 Feb 2008 01:12 PM PST

An era has ended at CNET (NSDQ: CNET), as the longtime editor-in-chief of CNET News.com Jai Singh is stepping down and leaving the company, amidst all the changes and proxy fight at the company. Meanwhile, Dan Farber, who has been instrumental in making ZDNet in a community hub for developer and business IT users, is now hoping to work his creds over at News.com as the new EIC, as the site tries to maintain its relevance amidst fierce competition from focused blogs and other online news outlets. Release.

Updated: According to a staff memo posted on Techcrunch, Singh “is leaving CNET to focus on restoring his health and to ‘ponder what’s next.’” Also, some more changes: Erik Weigel has been named VP of content operations and Mark Larkin has been named VP of programming.

Also, at ZDNet, Larry Dignan has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of ZDNet, as well as Editorial Director overseeing TechRepublic.
